Coronavirus Update 3/23/20

EMERGENCY UPDATE — Monday, March 23 —

To Our Clients:

In our Coronavirus Update on March 21, 2020, it was still uncertain whether Pennsylvania would extend the due date for 2019 income tax returns and tax payments beyond the normal April 15 deadline. Not long after that email was sent, it was announced that the deadline for taxpayers to file their 2019 Pennsylvania state tax returns was extended to July 15, 2020. In addition, Pennsylvania will waive any penalties and interest on 2019 income tax payments through the new deadline of July 15, 2020.

These new deadlines now align with the extended federal tax filing and tax payment deadlines announced by the IRS last week. For Pennsylvania purposes, these payments include the final 2019 income tax payments as well as the first and second estimated tax payments for 2020. These filing and payment extensions apply to both individual and corporate taxpayers.

For our clients with resident and non-resident filing requirements in states other than Pennsylvania, we continue to monitor your state agencies’ responses to the events surrounding the Coronavirus, and will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Much has been written over the last few days about different stimulus packages being considered at both the federal and state levels. These packages consist of tax credits, SBA lending programs, funding mechanisms, and the like. We are working diligently to review all such opportunities for which our clients might be eligible. For most of these programs, full details are not yet available. Please follow our website for continuing updates as more information becomes available.
